The History of We
Words and paintings by Nikkolas Smith
Children’s Non-fiction

The History of We is a wonderful new children’s non-fiction book that reads like a story, because it is a story, our story of humanity, the story of we. Beginning with our origins in ancient Africa, Nikkolas Smith’s absolutely stunning paintings and simple, yet profound verse take the reader on a journey, as humans create, discover, express, heal, grow, nurture, wonder, build, explore, and expand across the earth. The last two pages are chock-full of historical information about each painting and include a timeline and an author’s note that lend deeper meaning to each page.

Though The History of We is a children’s book, it is one meant to be read together and will absolutely engage adults as well as young ones. It speaks between generations to the common roots that bind us all. The History of We is a great read for anyone who has ever been curious about our origins or wondered about what makes us human. Nikkolas Smith has written a deeply moving, gorgeous book that captures the essence of the human spirit from our very beginnings.
