"Science, Women of Science and Women in Science," Presented by Dr. Deborah Huntley
Despite incredible advancements in research, science is currently under attack in our society. From vaccine safety to climate change, scientific results are manipulated, ignored, or dismissed. This is, in part, because of a general misunderstanding of what science is and how it works. In this presentation, Dr. Huntley will examine what science is and what it isn’t, particularly focusing on the work of women scientists. She will also examine the representation of women scientists, including in her own career, as well as the representation of scientific research focused on women’s health.
Dr. Deborah Huntley served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan from 2014-2025. She was the chief academic officer for the university and was responsible for curriculum, assessment, planning, program development, accreditations, budgets, scheduling, as well as personnel matters including faculty and staff development and evaluation, and student matters. Dr. Huntley also served for five years as the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology at SVSU. She holds the rank of Professor of Chemistry and received the Warrick Award for Research Excellence and served as a Rush Distinguished Lecturer.
