Celebrate Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with this fun and creative take and make kit!
Día De Los Muertos is celebrated on November 1 through November 2 where families gather together at gravesites to honor their friends and family members who have passed on. There is probably not a more iconic symbol for Day of the Dead than the calavera (skull). The calavera is usually a beautifully decorated representation of a skull, often featuring flowers, animals, and patterns. During the holiday, this symbol is seen everywhere, and in a way, the calavera has become an embodiment of the holiday itself. Everything about Día de Los Muertos is bright and colorful, especially the decorations. This helps keeps the tradition of honoring those who have passed as a celebration rather than a gloomy mourning.
Each take and make kit includes one ceramic skull, two neon Sharpie markers, and a page of colorful rhinestone and flower stickers. An instructional guide will be provided, but feel free to use additional colors and decorations of your own!
These take and make kits are available at Butman-Fish Library at the reference desk. They are designed for teens and adults. We only have a limited supply, so be sure you arrive early to grab yours!
