What Makes the Novel Novel?: A Perspective on the Craft of Ken Follett’s Fiction

Carlos Ramet, the author of two books of literary criticism and interpretation on bestselling novelist Ken Follett, will read from rare, unpublished works by Follett to discuss Follett’s career path and “the road untaken.”  Ramet will also discuss his own interest in writing, what he’s learned about craft from studying Follett, and where his approach and Follett’s diverge.  He will conclude by reading a selection from his recently published novel The Quiet Limit of the World.

Carlos Ramet has taught creative writing at Saginaw Valley State University, Columbia College in Chicago, and the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he earned his Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature. In addition to his books on Follett and his novel The Quiet Limit of the World, Ramet is the author of more than twenty published short stories as well as numerous scholarly and nonfiction articles. He has served on the board of various arts organizations, including the Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission and the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra.  Ramet is currently the Associate Dean in SVSU’s College of Arts & Behavioral Sciences.
