  • May be used in the library or from home if you live in our legal service area and have a valid library card

Searching tips
  • Names will appear as they do in the newspaper (first name, middle initial, last name).
  • If a name is unusual you may be able to use just the last name
  • To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotation marks (“crime rate”)

  • Type in your search term
  • Select how you want results to display (most recent first, etc.)
  • Select the year or years you want to search

  • Select your category – we’ll use “General”
  • Select General Reference Center Gold

About General Reference Center Gold
  • Best choice for general level magazine articles
  • Contains full text of articles from 1980 forward
  • Click on Title List to see the names of the magazines included

  • This is the basic search screen
  • Type in key words
  • Indicate if you want full text or not by checking the box
  • Note that you can limit in other ways as well

Remember that the more general your search is the less precise your results will be
  • Click Search to complete search
  • Notice how broad the results of this search are.
  • More precise subject terms are listed at the left side of the page

Refining results
  • Clicking on the correct subject will bring up articles about your topic with your original limits (full text and 2005)

Working with citations
  • You can sort your list of articles by publication date or relevance
  • Click on Full Text to view your article
  • Click on How to Cite to learn how to add the article to your bibliography

  • At the end of each article is a listing of related subjects


  • Articles can be printed, downloaded, or e-mailed
