Circulation Information & Policy

Circulation Policy
For specific questions about circulation policy (for obtaining library cards and checking out books and other materials) ask at any of our library branches or call Ruth Reinert, Head of Circulation, at 989-755-9824.

Email Notification
You may sign up to receive email notification of overdue notices and that items you placed on hold are now available for pick-up.

Fines
Fines for most overdue materials are $.10 per day, with a maximum of $4.00 per item. Feature videocassette fines are $1.00 per day, with a maximum of $10.00 per item.

Interlibrary Loan
Materials not owned by the Public Libraries of Saginaw are borrowed from other libraries. This is generally a free service.

Legal Service Area
The Public Libraries of Saginaw's  legal service area includes the City of Saginaw, the City of Zilwaukee, and Blumfield, Buena Vista, Carrollton, James, Kochville, Saginaw, Tittabawasee and Zilwaukee Townships.

Loan Periods
Materials are checked out for three weeks. Most materials can be renewed once. Renewals can be made over the phone or online through your library account.

Reserves/Holds
If the title you want is not available, you may reserve it or place it on hold even if it is owned by another library. This can be done in person, by phone or, in some cases, through the library's online catalog by following the instructions on the screen.

Library cards are available for anyone who lives in our service area and the area served by the Mideastern Michigan Library Co-op. Outside that area, a card can be purchased for a $100 non-resident fee. The library is part of the Michicard program. Organizational/corporate and teacher cards are available. Call Ruth Reinert, Head of Circulation, at 989-755-9824 for additional details.

 

Computer, Internet and Online Services

Online Databases
The Public Libraries of Saginaw purchases a variety of online databases for the public to use, either in the library or from your home via the web page. You must have a valid library card and live in the library's service area to access some of the databases online. To see the database listing click here.

Computers and Internet Access
Computers with word processing and Internet access are available at all our libraries. Some stations are filtered.

Computer and Internet Training
Introduction to the Internet classes are held once per month at the Hoyt Library. Call 755-0904 for more information. The Butman-Fish Library holds a Beginning Computer class once per month. Please call Butman Fish at 799-9160. Other classes are scheduled periodically such as Microsoft Word - Basics and Beyond. Click here to see the current computer training schedule. Library Internet Use Policy
The Public Libraries of Saginaw is pleased to make access to the resources of the Internet available within the context of the library's mission. Our mission  is to serve the educational, recreational, cultural and informational needs of the people in Saginaw's diverse communities.

The Public Libraries of Saginaw assumes no responsibility for any direct or indirect damages arising from the use of its connection to Internet services. The library is not responsible for the accuracy of information found on the Internet.

It is prohibited to use this station for illegal or criminal purposes or to seek access into unauthorized areas. Infringement of copyright is prohibited.

It is also prohibited to use this station for minors to receive or view  obscene or sexually explicit matter that is harmful as defined by Michigan PA  212 of 2000. Parents/guardians of minors are responsible for monitoring material  accessed by minors.

Inappropriate use may result in the loss of computer privileges.

Users of this station must adhere to these guidelines. Failure to follow  these guidelines may result in the loss of the right to use this computer.
