Children's and Youth Services
Coordinator
Contact Rhonda Farrell Butler at (989) 755-0904, ext. 814 with
questions about children's and youth services. The Public Libraries
of Saginaw is interested in coordinating activities and events
with other area organizations which serve children.
Children's Programs
The library has regularly scheduled programs for children. Call (989) 755-9826 for a free calendar of events. Special programs include preschool
story times, Mother Goose Times, the Parent Child Playgroup, the Summer
Reading Program, and story times.
Mother Goose Time
Mother Goose Time is a series of four programs for toddlers, 18-24
months old who must be accompanied by a loving adult. The programs
feature stories, nursery rhymes, finger plays and other activities.

Teaching Learning Connecting
A five-week series for children ages 1-3 that emphasizes learning
through play and a supportive environmen for parents to interact with
one another. Child development resource professionals are available
during the series to answer questions.
Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program is held June - August to encourage children
and teens to keep reading over the summer. The program offers incentive
prizes for children preschool through 12 to read ten hours, and teens
ages 13-18 to read twenty hours. In connection with the Summer Reading
Program all five branches offer free activities for children.
Preschool Story Times
Butman-Fish, Hoyt and Zauel Libraries have regularly scheduled
preschool story times for children ages 2½ to 5.

School Services
Interested parties need to contact the children's librarians at each individual branch to schedule any of the items listed below.
Class Visits
All teachers are invited to visit the library with their classrooms.
Each class can schedule a tour or special program twice during the
school year. Class visits need to be scheduled at least two weeks in
advance.
Library to School Visits
In addition to class visits to the library, the Children's Services
Coordinator or other library staff will provide programs to schools
in the library's service area.
Classroom Collections
Library staff is happy to select a general collection or materials
on a special topic for teachers to check out. Please give several days
notice, so we can obtain materials from other libraries, if needed.
Teachers are able to check out up to 75 items on their library cards.
First Grade Reading Celebrations
All first grade classes in the library's service area will be invited
to a special program to celebrate their students learning to read.
Teacher Library Card
Teachers are eligible for a special library card that allows them
to check out up to 75 items.
Teens
Special teen programs include Teen Fest, the Summer Reading Program and Teen Read Week. Visit any library for more information.
