Class Descriptions

Digital Camera Basics

Do you own a digital camera? Are you looking at buying a digital camera? Are you unsure what to do once your memory card is full? If so, this is the class for you!
Users will learn how to transfer pictures from a digital camera to a PC, organize photos in folders, perform basic editing, and explore printing options.   

Class Length: 2-3 hours (3 hours maximum)

Prerequisite: Basic keyboard and mouse skills are preferred.

Email for Beginners

Using Yahoo! email, attendees will learn how to register for an online-email account as well as setting up options within it. They will also learn to compose, retrieve and reply to email. An address book will be built by attendees as well as folders for storing messages.

Attendees will use Library registered accounts for the class. No personal accounts will be allowed.

Class Length: 2 hours

Prerequisite: Recommend users have some experience using a keyboard and mouse. Attendees should also have taken the basic “Introduction to Internet” class or the Computer Basics and Beyond Class.

Computer Basics and Beyond

If you are novice computer user or brand new, this is the class for you. This is a slow-paced class set in a comfortable environment that starts off very basic. Each week you build on the skills of the previous week. When you finish week 3 you will be amazed of how much you have learned and will be able to put it to good use.

You will learn how to surf the Internet, how to use Microsoft Word, what you need to know about your computer and much, much more. You must attend all three sessions!

Class Length: 2 hours each class day (This class meets 3 weeks in a row so total class time is 6 hours)

Prerequisite: No experience needed at all!

Intro to PowerPoint 2007

Learn how to create presentations using PowerPoint 2007. This class will show you how to create slideshows using text, graphics, and animations. This is a great class for students, job-seekers, or anyone looking to learn more about Microsoft Office 2007.

Class Length: 2 hours

Prerequisite: Users must have experience using a keyboard and mouse. If user needs more experience, Computer Basics and Beyond is an excellent starter class.

Intro to Excel 2007

Attendees will create an Excel Workbook and then learn how to format items within it. They will also learn how to perform calculations on data by using Auto Sum feature and more.

Class Length: 2 hours

Prerequisite: Users have some experience using a keyboard and mouse. If user needs more experience, Computer Basics and Beyond is an excellent starter class.

Beginning Resumes

Need to start or update your resume? This two-hour class is a basic introduction to creating a resume and cover letter. The class will start with a short PowerPoint Presentation and then continue to the hands-on portion. Using Microsoft Word, attendees will create a basic resume and cover letter.

Class Length: 2 hours

Prerequisite: Recommend that user have basic word processing skills or have taken “Microsoft Word – Basics and Beyond” first.

Microsoft Word - Basics and Beyond 2007

Users will learn about the "new" setup in Word 2007 including the Ribbon, Tabbed Menus and Group of Commands. Along with learning how to format a document, users will learn about features like bulleted and numbered lists, tables and more.

Class Length: 2 ½ hours

Prerequisite: Users must have experience using a keyboard and mouse. If user needs more experience, Computer Basics and Beyond is an excellent starter class.

Introduction to the Internet for Beginners

The Introduction to the Internet for Beginners class is oriented toward those who have very little or no experience using computers or the Internet. Attendees will learn how to use a mouse, scroll, open and close windows and programs, and how to search the Internet using hyperlinks and Search Engines. This class is held on the first Thursday of each month at the Butman Fish Library. Individuals who have some experience with computers and/or the Internet should sign up for the more comprehensive Introduction to the Internet class offered at Hoyt Main Library.

Class Length: 2 hours

Prerequisite: None

Introduction to the Internet

Introduction to the Internet classes are held at the Hoyt Library in the Computer Training Center and occasionally at some of the other branch locations. Attendees will get a brief description of the Internet and how it works. Working with Microsoft Internet Explorer, the attendees will learn how to input URLs and how to move around web pages. They will also learn how to search using keywords in at least two different Search Engines. Attendees will receive handouts and there will be time for questions at the end of class. This class is oriented toward those who have very little experience using the Internet, although experienced user will also gain knowledge from it.

Class Length: 3 hours

Prerequisite: None
